reasons for hair loss,

The human hair basically goes through a growth cycle that usually lasts from 2 to 6 years. During this time, the hair grows close to 1 centimeter every month. In essence, there are two types of hair activities that happen, the growth and the rest activity. At any given time, about 90% of the total hair strands on your scalp are developing, while the remaining are resting. After two to three months, the resting hair will fall out sooner or later and will be then replaced by new ones.

Hair loss is normal especially during the growth round. However, there are people who suffer excessive loss of hair. This type of hair shredding doesn't pick its victims from any particular category of people and affects all groups such as men, women and even children. Alternative terms for hair loss include balding, baldness and Alopecia.

Generally, there are two types of hair loss or baldness. First is the male pattern baldness that is evidenced by fading out of the hair line. As a result of it, a lot of men are just left with hair on the right, left and backside of their head. The most common reason behind such baldness is development of testosterone.

The next one is the female pattern baldness wherein it is the gradual thinning of hair all over the head, but the hairline is not being altered. Most women will notice the hair loss more on the line of where they part their hair. If you noticed a lot of hair in your brush or comb, it is likely a sign of female pattern baldness.

So what causes hair loss? Basically, there are numerous causes behind the shedding of hair of a person. Some may be gender specific, while there are also that occur in both the sexes. Here are a few:

• Hormonal changes either because of aging or thyroid problems. Changes in the hormones due to pregnancy and giving birth can greatly lead to losing hair but the good thing is that they grow back some time after child delivery. In addition, the use of birth control can also cause hair fall because of the effect on hormones.

• Suffering from illness and extreme fevers. Medications used during the illness like chemotherapy and radiation can lead to hair loss. Nevertheless, in most cases, hair grows back when the treatment stops.
• Going through a lot of stress can also make the hair fall. Emotional stresses can be anything from a break up, to loss of job or chronic illness.

If there are numerous causes, then there are also a lot of treatments. One could be hair transplantation which is a surgical procedure that gathers live, growing hair from one area on the head and then places them in the areas where there is thinning or balding happening. However, if you cannot afford this procedure, you can always opt for a much cheaper one and that is to make use of hair extensions, weaves, or a change of hairstyle. Lastly and probably the best way to treat hair loss is to have a good and healthy lifestyle by having a good diet giving the body the much needed vitamins, minerals as well as anti-oxidants to prevent the chances of losing hair.
