Many of us have tried to get fit, but for some reason we seem to be able to not get anywhere at all. We try the latest diets and supplements, we buy the hottest wear, and we join the best gyms in the area. Yet we still can't get to where we want to be at weight wise. Does this sound like a familiar problem to you?

I had the same problem in my journey to a fitter me. I could not stay motivated for anything long enough to see decent results. I would start the workout routine and then quit after a few weeks. So when I finally decided enough was enough I had to sit back and evaluate my priorities. This is the first step in your fitness journey; evaluate your priorities before you begin. You need to start off with some kind of plan; you wouldn't take a journey across the world without some kind of a plan would you? Well, the same can be said about taking the initiate to start working out. Most people go to the gym with no focus or game plan in mind.

They just go because someone told them too; maybe it was their doctor, spouse, friend, or coworker. They simply go because they feel that if they go they will get in better shape. The problem is this, that is just temporary thing, to get into great shape it takes some hard work and dedication. Most people go to casually workout and lift a little. They go for a month or two, and eventually fade off into obscurity. So the first thing you must do is to figure out why you are working out in the first place.

You need to come to terms with the real reason you're working out. If you're working out because you're looking for gratification from the opposite sex, then your focus will be crap. The problem with that focus is that your infatuation will only last for so long, once the infatuation period is over so will you desire to workout. Everything you justified that situation with will become a painful reminder of the experience you once loved but too come to hate!

So your first step should be to come up with a game plan and schedule. Make the routine part of your daily routine, not something you will do if you have the time for it. Next, research the types of exercises you want to do. If you want to shed a few pounds, do your research in that area. Don't try to lift for mass if you're trying to cut weight. If you need help there are numerous sources of valuable information available on the net. If you need help beyond that, find a personal trainer or a friend/acquaintance that is knowledgeable in that area. Once you complete these steps you're ready to begin.

Remember without goals, you're basically trying to shoot fish in a moving river. You're not going to accomplish anything at all, you must focus on your plan and then go from there. Believe me, once you have some kind of plain in place, you will be able to continue on the process of what you need to do next.
