Your Diet Is The Key To Longevity!

balanced diet,
So we all know that we need to have a good diet, but did you know it can be the key to living longer? A well known doctor, Dr. Mao Shing Ni, believes that you can find the keys to longevity by studying those who have lived for more than 100 years. He has a new cookbook, Secrets of Longevity talks about eating smaller meals and letting food be your medicine.

One important factor to keep in mind is to cook a healthy meal and eat together. Too often our priority is convenience and speed. The hardest part is getting families to comply with this philosophy, as we are always on the go and rarely sit down for meals together.

Dr. Ni believes that we can gain our dietary wisdom from centenarians around the world, which can translate into self-healing and longevity. This longevity comes from foods that are local, fresh, in season and free from pesticides.
A Diet Based on Sound Principles

It would be hard to disagree with his principles of a balanced diet, exercise, smaller meals, reducing stress and more antioxidant rich foods.
What sets Dr. Ni's plan apart from others is not only eating for longevity, but how to prepare the foods, when to eat them, how much to eat and where (and where not) to eat them. This also builds on focusing the dinner table as a place of vitality and gathering to enjoy the meal.

A Diet Build on Principles

Most of the recipes in his book are low-sodium, sugar-free, gluten-free, as well as smaller portions than we are accustomed to. This may be a big change for some, so start small and take away as you move forward.
For example, in the first few weeks, you can focus on making a few recipes in the book and then add another the following week and so on. This will help ease the transition towards this new diet approach.

To make the most of this, keep a journal to help see what you are eating/changing. Reduce you sodium and replace it with herbs and spices. Some things will be harder to find, but can be left out and replaced with other spices as needed.

The main thing to take away is to make these changes gradually, so that you will not feel deprived. If you can commit to a gradual, lasting change, you can heal your body and enjoy life more.
It's never too late to change or lose hope. You can get healthy and adopt new habits that will improve the quality of your life.
