Did you know that your lifestyle can affect how your skin looks? Surprising as it may seem, there are certain habits that you do in your day to day life that can actually cause you to look much older. Of course, we know that unhealthy habits such as smoking, drinking alcohol, poor diet and zero exercise can all take a toll on our skin. But unknown to many, it is those unseemingly harmless day to day habits we don't even think about that can actually affect our skin's ageing process. Here are some of them.
1. Rubbing your eyes.
When you're tired or when you feel like your eyes are itchy, you tend to rub it, am I right? I am also guilty of doing this, but unfortunately, all that skin pulling and tugging on your eye area can break the tiny capillaries around it and in effect cause the surrounding skin to darken. If you constantly rub your eyes, you also constantly break down these blood vessels which can make your dark circles look worse. It can also speed up the formation of fine lines around your eyes due to the fact that the skin around our eyes are very delicate.
2. Sleeping on your side.
Sleeping on your side is the best and not to mention the most comfiest sleeping position. Do you agree with me? Unfortunately, as comfortable as it may seem, sleeping with one side of your face pressed against your pillow for hours is bad for the skin. It can speed up the formation of wrinkles and fine lines on that area of your face. Sleeping on your back is actually the best way to sleep, but if you must sleep on your side, try to use a much softer pillow to decrease the pressure applied on your face. And oh, make sure that it's clean so that you won't have breakouts.
3. Yo-Yo diets.
The constant cycle of gaining and losing too much weight can actually affect your skin. Gaining and losing weight repeatedly stretches the skin which causes the elastic fibers on the skin to break down which in effect makes it sag. Your face will look droopy over time if you continue to with your yo yo diets. Try to do other weight loss methods or better yet, maintain regular workouts and try to eat as healthy as possible to prevent gaining too much weight.
4. Overusing anti ageing products.
Slathering your face in copious amounts of anti ageing creams can actually do you more harm than good. Applying more of a product than directed can cause your pores to get clogged and make your complexion blotchy. Putting on so much product on your face can lead to irritation and redness which can just make the signs of ageing more noticeable.
